It wasn't easy picking what college to attend but in the end I decided to go to California State Dominguez Hills. I decided to attend this school since it was nearest to what my home. I did want to go far but I was denied to UCSC which was my dream school. My brother attended UCSC and often times invited me over to explore the campus. It was a beautiful city, covered in forest, near the beach and the community was very down to earth. It seemed like everyone would help each other out over there in Santa Cruz. Since that did not happen I had to decide from California State University of Los Angeles and California State University of Dominguez Hills. California State Los Angeles is a great school but it wasn't the school for me. I finally decided upon going to Cal State Dominguez Hills because it was close to home, it was affordable, and i didn't have to worry about transportation since i will be carpooling with my cousin who attends this University.
I expect Dominguez Hills to be a challenge but one that I will be able to conquer. I know that I won't have a hard time fitting in since the demographics of the school show that it is very diverse. If i was one of the few Hispanics at this University I would most likely feel uneasy since I would suffer from culture shock. I would have to adapt to the nature of everyone in the University which would be the most difficult part. I'm not worried about the classes since I have learned new ways to study, note take, and manage my time thanks to AVID.
While in this college I wish to carry on the tradition i have going on and complete my college years with honors. It will be no easy task especially since I still need to take math classes. I would also like to become more involved in my education by joining multiple clubs, study groups, and have one on one time with professors if I don't understand the work assigned to me. I hope to use the skills I was taught by AVID in my college career.
Now that I will be in college there will be no procrastination from me anymore. I will use every new technique I have learned in order to become successful. I will be more time organized and not do many unproductive activities this will only help me fail. I will also follow through with all my goals and will always complete the assignments given to me on the day they are given.
