I was a late addition into the AVID class joining in my senior year of high school. Once I joined I expected that feeling of entering a strange
class knowing no one and having no friends in it. I never expected to be greeted by such a wonderful class. I looked around and all i saw were
familiar faces, I knew almost everyone in this class.
The AVID program sure did make me put in a lot of work. When I first joined I thought this would be an easy class but i was very wrong. I
disliked all the work we were given but i enjoyed doing it for some reason. Most people hated the tutorial sessions but I was looking forward
to the next session. I didn't believe how much it helped me in my statistics class, after all math is my worse subject of all. With the help of
AVID's tutorials I was able to pass almost all of my test with at least a B or higher. I wasn't always the person to go up but watching how
everyone helped me out inspired me to become productive. Before joining AVID i never joined any study groups, I never asked for help from
my peers and I barely spoke to any of my teachers.
The Avid program helped me get my organization skills on point. Before my backpack was just papers scattered all over the place in an
"organized mess". I was able to fix that issue and use my AVID binder to clean out the mess i had. Now I have everything in a binder with
sections for each of my classes. I thought a two inch binder would be enough for the school year but i ended up with two binders. I should
have taken a before and after to show the improvement. I still have to fix the issue of constantly forgetting to put everything in the right
order. I fixed the issue of having everything cluttered but now I put things in my binder without putting them in the right order by date. If i
was to put everything by date it would be much easier to find documents when looking for them.
Avid has helped even helped me with deciding what college to attend. The program introduced me to information i wouldn't have known if i
didn't join. They helped me with filing my FAFSA and filling out my college applications. The college applications were easy but in the
program they inspired us to apply to more colleges than we originally wanted. I would have made a mistake since I was thinking of only
applying to one Cal State and got denied to it. Thanks to AVID I applied to four Cal States and got accepted into three other schools. It felt
amazing when i found out that I had options to pick from since I was accepted into three of the four. I was never really interested in colleges,
in my junior year of high school i was always telling myself i'm just going to get out of high school and get a job. Now that I have been
accepted into colleges I reset the way I was thinking and now I'm going to California State Dominguez Hills.
